I really bopped this week to new music by Cardi B and Kali Uchis. I'm hyped about Kali Uchis' album because she's playing Ram's Head this summer!!

Laura (Statuettes)

Geography by Tom Misch - amazing album; smooth and groovy
Mogli X Two Lungs (No Spirit Remix) on SoundCloud - I heard this and was transported

Isaac Bernstein (Rice and Beans)

I study French and neuroscience, so here's some French rap to blow your minds:
MC Solaar - Hasta la Vista: MC Solaar raps in Spanish and French over a hip-hop beat featuring acoustic guitar interjections and catchy Spanish vocals.
Django - Fauve: Django burns up a dark hard beat with an effortless laid-back flow. "Man comes from monkey, I'm a kangaroo in the street".
Booba - 113: Another hard beat, with Booba rapping hard in his distinct auto-tune-heavy style. Plenty of clever wordplay in this one, even if you don't speak French.
Grems - Tokup: I've never heard someone rap over house music before. Europe seems chill.
Niska feat. Booba - Tuba Life: Man I love the tuba. Niska screams bars.

It's interesting to try to find what American rap influences contributed to the development of these artists sounds. Historically, hip-hop in France came AFTER American hip-hop.

Jason Souvaliotis

novelist - novelist guy: this album is a dope mix of grime and old-school three six mafia influences. The hooks can get repetitive but that doesn’t take much away from the experience
standout tracks: smiles, afro pick, nov wait stop wait

Paul Watson

Grandmaster Flash's Salsoul Jam: Grandmaster Flash DJs a bunch of amazing tracks from the Salsoul label into 70-minute mix that will make you dance and make your day 10x better!

Vinnie Wu

Young Thug - Hear No Evil
Flatbush Zombies - Vacation in Hell
Kali Uchis - Isolation
Gus Dapperton - You Think You're a Comic!
HINDS - I Don't Run

Hana Chop

Still listening to Bach, in particular his Brandenburg Concertos. Very energetic.

Will Scerbo (The Clambake)

AUTECHRE - NTS SESSIONS VOLUME 1 and VOLUME 2: Autechre are making music that sounds like nothing else out there. 10+ minute journeys through alien/robot/terminator soundscapes. some of it sounds like transformers fucking. it's amazing. support the artists, buy this shit in FLAC and blast extremely loud.

Arthur Russell - Calling Out of Context: Arthur Russell was a visionary and waaaay ahead of his time
Art Blakey - A Jazz Message - Been studying to this bad boy. Thank you Nick for recommending!

Kali Uchis - In My Dreams - This album is good, and this is the boppiest bop off it. I smiled big when Damon Albarn showed up.
Dream Warriors - Wash Your Face In My Sink: U wash your face in my SINK??????
Nicki Minaj - Chun-Li: Got a lot of hate but this gets my booty movin'
In the Weird Part of the Night - Louis Cole: I walk like Louis in the music video for this now (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=glgPZmSwC4M)

Chris Cardoz (All You Can Eat Sushi)

Cardi B - Invasion of Privacy: Everyone knows the Cardi B album is great. She improved her flow and versatility since her last 2 mixtapes, and I was into the feature verses. The production is pretty standard, but there are a few tracks that deviate from the trap norm. The subject matter of the album is my favorite aspect, as this is the most vulnerable Bardi has been since she got in the game.

Kali Uchis - Isolation: Kali Uchis is an artist I got into a lot this year, mostly knowing her from features. I would say versatility is the high point of this album, as she shifts her genres from track to track. Love the producers she worked with and most of her vocal performances. This is the kind of album you can put on in the background of any social setting and there are will be a song for each person in the room to enjoy, regardless of their primary music taste.

Young Thug (SEX) - Hear No Evil: Sex is back with a new EP even though he said that he wasn't releasing music this year, reinforcing him as the most confusing figure in rap. As usual the lyrics are nonsensical, but he's returned to his Barter 6 form. I'm very glad that he's back to rapping primarily over singing, and he has also shown some fire snippets on Instagram. I would say the high point of this EP is the 21 Savage track, but it's a step in the right direction. Hopefully Sex will release more of those snippets from Instagram.

Frodo McCall (Double Dream Hands)

Earl Grey - Girl Ray: Bittersweet love songz [fave: Monday Tuesday]
CARE FOR ME by Saba: Feelingz [fave: Smile]
Isolation but Kali Uchis: Jamz [fave: In My Dremas]
What I’ll Do - The New Birth: Groovy despite sad content
Stellar - Jamila Woods: Stellar

Clara Liff

Empress Of - Trust Me Baby/In Dreams

Empress of - Trust Me Baby/In Dreams
New Princess Nokia album!!
Patrick Paige III - On My Mind/Charge It to the Game
Unknown Mortal Orchestra - Everyone Acts Crazy Nowadays
Kali Uchis - Your Teeth in my Neck
Porches - Goodbyes

I saw (& met) Japanese Breakfast last week!! Michelle Zauner is the sweetest and it's always refreshing seeing an Asian American woman on stage!

Sam Gomes (Sunday Mass)

THE NEW KALI UCHIS THE NEW CARDI!! The new Kali knocked my underwear off. The best songs on the new Kali are Just A Stranger w Steve Lacy, Dead To Me, Tomorrow, and Nuestro Planeta w Reykon. On the new Cardi, I like Money Bag and Drip. I listen to those songs when I'm trapping. Louis VI and Mick Jenkins came out with Jazz Got Me, and I like it very much too :]. Kaytranada also did these piano jams w Robert Glasper called The ArtScience Remixes, and they're kind of tacky, but I liked Written in Stone. Sorry for rambling I'm caffeinated. :]
